Renewal charge: Rs 300 per year for two-wheelers, Rs 500 for cars, on top of the tax. Late fines: 5% (up to 30 days late), 10% (31 – 45 days late), 20% (later, but within the same fiscal year), 32% (1 year late). Rates cross-checked across multiple published schedules for FY 2082/83; confirm final amounts at your province's Transport Management Office. In Bagmati province, annual motorcycle tax for FY 2082/83 is Rs 3,000 up to 125cc, Rs 5,000 for 126–150cc, Rs 6,500 for 151–225cc, Rs 12,000 for 226–400cc, Rs 25,000 for 401–650cc, and Rs 35,000 above 650cc — plus a Rs 300 renewal charge. Other provinces differ slightly.
In Bagmati province, annual private-car tax is Rs 22,000 up to 1000cc, Rs 25,000 for 1001–1500cc, Rs 27,000 for 1501–2000cc, Rs 37,000 for 2001–2500cc, Rs 50,000 for 2501–3000cc, Rs 65,000 for 3001–3500cc, and Rs 70,000 above 3500cc — plus a Rs 500 renewal charge.
Far less than petrol: electric scooters pay Rs 1,000–3,000 per year by motor wattage, and electric cars Rs 5,000–30,000 by motor kW (Bagmati rates). A 51–125 kW EV — which covers most popular electric cars in Nepal — pays Rs 15,000 per year.
5% of the tax if you pay within 30 days after the deadline, 10% within 45 days, 20% within the same fiscal year, and 32% per year for arrears of 1–5 years. After 5 years the registration can be cancelled and the vehicle seized.
